In the press conference of 12 February 2026, Professor KY Yuen in his capacity as the Director of the Centre of Virology, Vaccinology and Therapeutics (CVVT) delivered an academic talk about a novel scientific approach which leads to the discovery of compounds or extracts which inhibit the release of toxin by Staphylococcus aureus without killing the bacteria. This approach would reduce the risk of induction of antibiotic resistance and disruption of the normal microbiome of human.

Prof Yuen wishes to clarify that he has never promoted the use of any drug for the treatment of atopic dermatitis at any time. His role was all along academic for the popularisation of translational science. Based on HKUMed's understanding, Prof Yuen has not taken advantage of his professional capacity as a medical doctor to promote the use of any medical products or health claim substances for the treatment of atopic dermatitis during the press conference.

Meanwhile, Prof Yuen does not hold any equity interest in CVVT, which is owned by HKU.

在2026年2月12日的新聞發布會上，袁國勇教授以InnoHK病毒與疫苗研究中心（CVVT）總監身份就一種創新的科學方法發表學術演說，該方法採用化合物或提取物，能在不殺死金黃葡萄球菌的情況下抑制其釋放毒素。這種策略有助於降低出現抗生素抗藥性的風險，並避免干擾人體正常微生物群。

袁教授謹此澄清，他從未在任何時間推廣任何藥物用於治療異位性皮膚炎。一直以來，袁教授的角色僅在學術層面致力於轉化科學的普及。根據港大醫學院的了解，袁教授於該次發布會上並未利用其醫生的專業身份推廣任何醫療／健康產品／物質，用以治療異位性皮膚炎。

在此鄭重聲明，袁教授並未持有香港大學轄下的CVVT的任何股權。
